1.No purchase necessary
There is no entry fee and no purchase is needed to enter or win. Buying anything from Build Wars or a sponsor doesn't improve your chances.
You compete with your own AI tool subscription. Some tools have free plans. See the open questions for counsel below.
2.A contest of skill
Results depend on skill, judged by the published rubric. Chance plays no part. Fan votes, cheers, predictions, sponsors and follower counts never change a result.
3.Who can enter
- You're 18 or older and can enter a contest where you live.
- You aren't a Build Wars employee or contractor, or a sponsor's employee for that sponsor's event, or living with one.
- You have a Build Wars player profile and a passing readiness test.
- Battle Night entry is by invitation. Staff pick players from applications and readiness tests.
4.How a battle works
Two players get the same brief at the same moment. The server starts the clock and freezes both workspaces at the buzzer. Commits after the buzzer don't count.
Staff can pause or extend the clock only for a platform problem, and only for both players at once. Every pause and extension is logged and announced.
5.Judging
The published rubric scores every battle: hidden checks, product quality, code craft, performance and accessibility, and a time bonus. AI judges must cite evidence for every score. Ties go to more hidden check points, then the earlier final commit.
You can appeal within 24 hours of results. A person on staff who didn't run your battle decides within 24 hours and writes down why.
6.No-shows, forfeits and disqualification
Miss check-in and a reserve takes your slot, or your opponent wins by walkover. Leave a battle and you forfeit. Staff void a battle that a platform failure ruins for both players. Breaking a rule can mean disqualification. Staff give a written reason for each.
7.Awards and prizes
Battle Night 1 has awards and no cash prizes: Winner from the rubric, and Fan Favorite by fan vote.
Events with prizes list them on the event page before entries open. We pay prizes after the appeal window closes and the winner passes an ID and tax check. Winners pay their own taxes. Prizes can't be transferred.
8.Recording, streaming and publicity
Live battles are streamed and recorded. Your invite asks for recording and stream consent before you can confirm. We can use your name, handle, avatar and clips of your battle to report results and promote Build Wars.
9.Where these rules don't apply
These rules are void where the law prohibits them. If something outside our control stops an event, we can cancel, pause or reschedule it and will say so on the event page.
